{A Few Words} Wednesday

Momma’s got a desk … in her bedroom no doubt.

But hey, a desk in a room that is already off-limits to the peeps except by way of a knock and permission to enter.

I mentioned in a prior post a need for somewhere for all of my stuff to land.

With our dining room being used as a schoolroom and being that it is a square and being that it is not a huge square, there was nowhere for Momma to have a desk anyway.

About 2 a.m. one night, I had a light bulb glowing above my head. This is a RARE occurrence mind you.

But the light bulb was highlighting my old scrapbook table the Prez built, which had been transformed by my Dad and relocated to the girls’ bedroom.

Except they didn’t use it. I had intended it for toy storage, but we don’t really allow a lot of toys in bedrooms. They never get played with in there, and except for the girls’ dolls … which were not in the transformed former scrapbook table … this piece of furniture was not being utilized.

Ah-ha. Eureka. A desk made just for me years ago. I know it worked because I used it faithfully to scrapbook about 4 children ago.

But where to put it?

Oh, logically, in one’s bedroom of course. Huh?

So, I asked the Prez if he had any misgivings about this brilliant strange idea. He gave me his blessings right away, so I dusted and inquired of two boys already taller and almost taller than me to bring their muscular power and move it downstairs.

Just look at all of this storage for MY teacher books! And the brown in-laid part of the doors is magnetic! I have some teacher ideas already as well as using it for keeping a little someone busy while at under my feet!

In its place, I swapped out the vanity table I had in my bedroom. The Prez attached the mirrors back, and Susannah is loving this spot (which I’ll add a photo of later!). I had the vanity in my room as a little girl, so it is fun for her and she likes that I used it when I was her age.

I had a LARGE PILE of S.T.U.F.F. to go through in the schoolroom already. I finally did that for the most part {with a certain little someone on my back!}.

I have two boxes/bins still in my bedroom floor left from that purge. I hauled two large garbage bags to the trash can, and took another to our pile of stuff to donate that is always going in the garage.

While going through the pile of S.T.U.F.F, I came across some old garage sale stickers that I know we’d never use again (if I ever have another one, I will do like the last two and put a sign up “make an offer”). So, I had another assistant one night as I tried to finish going through the pile, and she helped me cut up the stickers (some other ones were found as well) and put them into a little tub.

I pull this tub out ONLY for certain times: read-a-louds with the all of our students or at 5:30 a.m. when some little someone decides to arise way too early. She LOVES her “sticker box.” Mission accomplished.

My reading selections as of late … well the Prez is not digging those so much … he might be thinking I’ve lost my mind to be reading such stuff … and he might be right but no matter I find this stuff interesting.

As for my desk, not a day has gone by that it has not been used. And as strange as this may sound, our children come to my bedroom when I meet with them individually. Since all are already trained to knock before entering our bedroom and to choose wisely about what one comes to knock, it just works.
